Golf Preview: The US Open

A professional golf tournament played in the United States is the United States Open Championship.  The US Open is the nick name of it.  It is one of the 4 major championships on the PGA Tour.  It is played annually in mid-June and is the 2nd of the 4 major tournaments to take place each year with The Masters Tournament coming before and The British Open and the PGA Championship following later in the year.

On October 4, 1895 the first US Open was played in a single day. The nine-hole course was played through 4 times by a field of ten professionals and one amateur to make up a 36-hole competition.  The winner received $150 and a $50 gold medal.

The courses across the United States are the place where the US Open is played.  The US Open is usually characterized by the leaders of the tournament having tight scoring at or around par, so the course must be one that places a high degree of emphasis on driving accuracy. Many times the US Open has been won by golf betting players with scores above par. Betting on Golf is always a safe and secure option for all golf bettors.

Players from the United States have almost won the US Open since 1911, and the championship has been won by online golf betting players only from 5 other nations since 1950.

Some of the records of the US Open include:

  • Oldest Winner: Hale Irwin (45 years, 15 days) 1990
  • Youngest winner: John McDermott (19 years, 315 days), 1911
  • Most strokes under par: -12, Tiger Woods, 2000
  • Most victories: 4, Willie Anderson, Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus

Sony Ericsson Open Preview

Some exciting tennis is promised to feature in the 2010 Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, Florida. The event that lasts until April 4 is expected to start on March 22. The Sony Ericsson Open is a unique tournament, as it features the world’s best male and female tennis players sharing the same venues simultaneously. Behind Grand Slams, without a doubt, it’s one of the most important tournaments.

As the top players visit the American hard courts for the spring season, the preview for the 2010 Sony Ericsson Open is definitely exciting. First of all, right after another major tournament, the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California this event will be played. The Indian Wells tournament will play a major role in the confidence and performance of the players as they enter the Sony Ericsson Open. Tennis Betting odds are always available.

Roger Federer and Serena Williams, the World’s number one players and the 2010 Australian Open champions, are expected to play the Sony Ericsson Open. To win the tournament, Federer and Williams are the hot favorites.

On the men’s side, from top players such as Novak Djokovic (#2) and Rafael Nadal (#4) Federer is expected to face some heavy competition. Andy Murray, the last year’s champion, enters the tournament ranked number 3 in the world. Murray has a great chance to defend his title in Miami despite losing to Federer in this year’s Australian Open final.

On the women’s side, a major contender for the title is Victoria Azarenka besides Serena Williams. As Azarenka beat Williams here in the final last year, the currently #7 ranked is the defending champion. Azarenka will remember her tough 3 set loss to Serena Williams at this year’s Australian Open, and will seek some revenge on the Miami hard courts. Many online sportsbooks offer sports betting odds on Tennis.

Honda Classic – PGA Tour Preview

The best golfers from all over the world are attracted by the PGA tour.  A number of upsets and surprises are brought in each tournament.

Tiger Woods will not be playing this year is the biggest difference. He has checked himself into a sex rehab and is taking a break from golf indefinitely because of all the scandalous accusations about infidelity going around about him.

Some other up and coming golfers are offered to strut their stuff in the meantime but who knows how long he will be out of action. Betting on golf is always available.

The PGA Tour Honda Classic has been around since the 1970s and is a regular stop on the tour. The tournament always takes place on the Champion Golf Course in Florida.

It was first built by Tom and George Fazio but later renovated by Jack Nicklaus and the history of the course is quite interesting. On holes 15, 16, and 17, Jack added what is known as the “bear trap”. The whole tournament benefits the Nicklaus Children’s Healthcare Foundation, and is a prestigious stop on the tour. In many different golf publications, the course is ranked on the “top 100″ resorts.

From March 4-7, the tournament takes place in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Yang from Korea was last year’s tournament winner. He shot a two under 68 to end up one shot ahead of the competition. It was his first PGA tour victory and he may even repeat with another win this year, who knows. You can bet online with online sportsbooks and casino.
