A professional golf tournament played in the United States is the United States Open Championship.  The US Open is the nick name of it.  It is one of the 4 major championships on the PGA Tour.  It is played annually in mid-June and is the 2nd of the 4 major tournaments to take place each year with The Masters Tournament coming before and The British Open and the PGA Championship following later in the year.
